Young people in Douala, Littoral Cameroon, have been encouraged to leverage the digital world to develop their careers. In Logbaba and Makepe, Douala, the youth participated in training on employability skills, including information on how to plan, budget, save, and invest to reach their financial objectives. Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS) is equipping young people with smartphones, thanks to generous funding from the MasterCard Foundation, to enhance their job prospects. As part of the training, the youth got information on practical mobile applications that could support their marketing endeavors. They were informed that digital marketing strategies could help target specific online audiences, leading to increased sales, web traffic, and revenue growth. The trainers are optimistic that the training has reignited hope in many discouraged young Cameroonians. Additionally, the participants received guidance on crafting quality CVs and utilizing online job search platforms. The youth were also advised not to hesitate to accept entry-level positions, as the experience gained from these roles can lead to better-paying opportunities. Regardless of the initial salary, financial planning was stressed as crucial for the youth’s long-term economic success. Effective financial management, including planning, budgeting, saving, and investing, and the need to prepare for emergencies and risks was emphasized. Lastly, Cameroonian youths were taught to develop resilience and stress management skills applicable to various aspects of their lives.
