EXPERIENCE

Dr. Patrick A. Njukeng is an Associate Professor of Virology and a health systems strengthening expert with extensive knowledge and experience in virology, biotechnology, laboratory management. He holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc,) from University of Yaounde, Cameroon, MSc. and PhD from University of Ibadan in Nigeria. Besides these academic qualifications, in order to engage on an aggressive career in health systems strengthening, he embarked on many capacity building courses in several institutions including; International Institutes of Tropical Agriculture, WHO, George Washington University, and later in Harvard University, USA, where he undertook Leadership and Decision Making courses.

His passion to strengthen health systems and services in resource-limited settings led him to found Global Health Systems Solutions, an International Non Governmental Organization (NGO), with Head Office in Douala Cameroon, where he is Executive Director. Through this organization, he has made significant achievements in supporting laboratory systems strengthening and improving quality management systems in public health laboratories in Africa to better prepare them for disease epidemic and response.

He has served as Principal Investigator (PI) over Cooperative Agreements (CoAg) with US-CDC/PEPFAR since 2010 for Strengthening Laboratory Systems in Ghana, Cameroon & the DR Congo, and of three grants from Africa CDC to Strengthen Regional Integrated Surveillance & Laboratory Networks (RISLNET) in 9 countries in the Central Africa and 14 in West Africa regions. He has also been PI of a sub-grant from African Field Epidemiology Network (AFNET) for the development of the National Laboratory Strategic Plans for five Caribbean countries, and the COVID-19 operational research project lead in six countries under a grant from Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND). He is currently leading the Africa CDC/MasterCard Foundation Saving Lives and Livelihood project in nine Central Africa countries. He is also leading the GHSS team to carry out operational research to address health systems strengthening gaps and on antimicrobial resistance that has led to several publications, with some ongoing.

As a don, Dr. Patrick A. Njukeng has over 23 years of university teaching and mentoring experiences that spans from the BSc. to PhD levels. As a researcher, he has authored several publications in prestigious Journals, addressing topics such as detection of viruses and epidemiology of viral diseases, antimicrobial resistance, medical laboratory quality improvement, and strengthening the laboratory/clinic interface. He has received numerous grants, and he is an Alexander Von Humboldt Research Fellow.
