
Dr. Julius Nwobegahay
Head, Military Health Research Center (CRESAR) President, Africa Partnership Outbreak Response Alliance (APORA)
Dr. Julius Nwobegahay is a distinguished virologist, senior military health officer, and public health researcher with over two decades of experience advancing infectious disease surveillance, laboratory systems, and outbreak response across Africa. He holds a PhD in Virology from the University of Venda, South Africa, and advanced training in biomedical research ethics from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, USA.
A Colonel in the Cameroon Army, Dr. Nwobegahay currently serves as Head of the Military Health Research Center (CRESAR), Co-Principal Investigator for major HIV and infectious disease studies, and President of the Africa Partnership Outbreak Response Alliance (APORA). His research leadership spans HIV/AIDS, antimicrobial resistance, hepatitis, emerging pathogens, and pandemic preparedness.
An accomplished academic, he is an Associate Professor at the University of Douala and has mentored numerous MSc and PhD candidates in Cameroon and beyond. He is widely published, a frequent conference speaker, and an active member of international health networks including the International AIDS Society and the Central African Monkeypox Surveillance Network.
Dr. Nwobegahay combines scientific expertise, military discipline, and collaborative leadership to strengthen health systems and improve disease prevention and control in Africa.
