The Global Health and Systems Solutions (GHSS) in collaboration with Illuminating Minds, successfully launched the Women’s Entrepreneurship Empowerment Project (WEEP) on the 4th of February 2025 in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, Nigeria. The initiative aims to uplift women by providing economic opportunities, employability skills, and vocational training in diverse fields such as agriculture, digital marketing, fashion design, and small-scale manufacturing to enhance their self-sufficiency and contribute to national development.
The launch event was attended by key stakeholders, including the former president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E President Goodluck Jonathan, federal and state government officials, the King and other traditional rulers of Bayelsa state, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and beneficiaries. The project is funded by GHSS and implemented by the Illuminating Minds, a local Non-Governmental Organization in Nigeria led by Dr. Itari Turner. The GHSS team led by the Executive Director, Prof. Patrick Njukeng, was well represented to oversee the launch of the event and also offer the necessary support.
This pilot project is expected to be executed in 6 months after which an in-depth evaluation will be done to ascertain its continuity and sustainability. It is hoped that the 70 beneficiaries chosen, all women, will utilize this opportunity to be self-reliant and create job opportunities for others.
LANCEMENT DU PROJET D’ENTREPRENEURIAT ET D’AUTONOMISATION DES FEMMES (WEEP) DANS
L’ÉTAT DE BAYELSA, AU NIGÉRIA
Le Global Health and Systems Solutions (GHSS), en collaboration avec Illuminating Minds, a lancé avec succès le projet d’autonomisation des femmes en entrepreneuriat (WEEP) le 4 Février 2025 à Yenagoa,
dans l’État de Bayelsa, au Nigéria. L’initiative vise à élever les femmes en leur offrant des opportunités
économiques, des compétences en matière d’employabilité et une formation professionnelle dans divers domaines tels que l’agriculture, le marketing numérique, la création de mode et la fabrication à petite
échelle, afin d’améliorer leur autosuffisance et de contribuer au développement national.
L’événement de lancement a réuni des parties prenantes clés, dont l’ancien président de la République fédérale du Nigéria, S.E. le président Goodluck Jonathan, des responsables du gouvernement fédéral et de l’État, le roi et d’autres dirigeants traditionnels de l’État de Bayelsa, des organisations non gouvernementales (ONG) et des bénéficiaires. Le projet est financé par GHSS et mis en œuvre par Illuminating Minds, une organisation non gouvernementale locale au Nigéria dirigée par le Dr Itari Turner. L’équipe du GHSS dirigée par le directeur exécutif, le professeur Patrick Njukeng, était bien représentée pour superviser le lancement de l’événement et également offrir le soutien nécessaire.
Ce projet pilote devrait être exécuté dans 6 mois, après quoi une évaluation approfondie sera effectuée
pour vérifier sa continuité et sa durabilité. On espère que les 70 bénéficiaires choisies, toutes des femmes, profiteront de cette opportunité pour devenir autonomes et créer des opportunités d’emploi pour d’autres personnes.
