Founded by Kernyuy Mariant, an agricultural engineer and passionate farmer, Ideal Farmers is a growing agribusiness that demonstrates how resilience and innovation can transform challenges into opportunities. From humble beginnings with a single fish tank, Kernyuy has built a thriving enterprise that now supplies tonnes of fish monthly while empowering communities.

The Challenge and Breakthrough

Socio-political crisis forced Kernyuy to relocate from Cameroon’s Northwest region to the Littoral region. Despite financial constraints, her determination to pursue agriculture never wavered. The turning point came with the GHSS grant, which enabled Ideal Farmers to expand from one to two tanks, increase fingerlings, and purchase feed. This support boosted production capacity from 1,000 to 3,000 fish per month and laid the foundation for further growth.

Scaling Operations
Today, Ideal Farmers operates six tanks with a monthly output of two tonnes of fish, meeting rising market demand. This expansion has positioned the enterprise as a reliable supplier while creating opportunities for training, employment, and community development.

Social and Economic Impact
Ideal Farmers is not just a business, it is a catalyst for empowerment:
40+ young people trained in fish farming skills
20+ women empowered through targeted training programs
50+ interns gained hands-on agricultural experience
 Family involvement strengthened, with Kernyuy’s younger brother now serving as general manager

Innovation and Sustainability
The enterprise has diversified into:

 Maggot production for organic waste management
 Organic crop cultivation using maggot by-products
 Supplying quality organic food to local communities
This integrated model reduces waste, promotes sustainability, and strengthens food security.

Why Funders Should Invest
Ideal Farmers offers a compelling case for investment:
Scalable model: Proven growth from one tank to six, with potential for regional expansion
Community empowerment: Training programs that create sustainable livelihoods for youth and women.
Environmental sustainability: Waste-to-value innovations that support organic farming
Economic growth: Strengthening local food systems and creating jobs

Conclusion
With continued funding and support, Ideal Farmers can expand production, reach more communities, and inspire a new generation of farmers. Kernyuy Mariant’s journey demonstrates that strategic investment in agriculture yields not only financial returns but also lasting social and environmental benefits. Recently, GHSS management visited Mariant’s fish farm, engaging with her and witnessing firsthand the transformative
impact of their support.
