Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS) recently organised the first advocacy workshop on gender inclusiveness at workplaces and encouraged youth employment. GHSS is currently empowering
thousands of young people in Cameroon, with funding from the MasterCard Foundation.
The workshop organised on February 27, 2025, assembled officials from Cameroon’s Social Affairs Ministry, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reform, Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training, Civil Society Organisations and owners of vocational training centers.
The general objectives of the workshop were to advocate for policy changes and decision-making, promote diversity in the work environment, sensitise employers on the need for a gender-sensitive approach at work, and create opportunities for the recruitment of young people. Regarding these objectives, the GHSS Gender Officer urged the stakeholders to foster a work environment where everyone feels valued and respected and has the opportunity to flourish, no matter their sexual identity or expression.
While explaining the institutional framework of gender inclusivity and the strategies adopted by the
government to integrate this approach in public offices, a gender specialist from Cameroon’s Public
Service Ministry encouraged the recruitment of more women into places of work. She said women improve team performance, create a more positive and productive environment, increase staff involvement and loyalty, and limit employee turnover. Additionally, employers were tasked to sensitise women to their roles in the workplace.
The involvement of various ministries and organisations by GHSS highlights the importance of a collaborative approach to achieving these goals. GHSS shared and explained the policy framework on gender inclusiveness and youth employability, which it drafted with the Workshop’s participants.
