Organization information:
Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS) is a non-governmental and not for profit organization dedicated to seeking innovative solutions to strengthen health systems in developing countries for effective service delivery and surveillance of infectious, non-infectious, and neglected tropical diseases. We focus in three key areas:
improve laboratory systems and services critical for disease management, surveillance, and prevention; enhance field surveillance and epidemiological training for relevant animal and human-health to mitigate threats posed by diseases; and improve service delivery at all health levels.

Our major collaborators include Ministries of Health, World Health Organization (WHO), United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Africa Centers for Disease Control, Mastercard Foundation and several bi-lateral organizations.

Purpose of the role
In order to develop, plan and implement communication services that support the overall strategy to achieve the organization’s objectives, GHSS is currently seeking for an outstanding, qualified and experienced Communication Officer.

Primary duties and responsibilities

• Collaborate with management to develop and implement an effective communications strategy based on our target audience;
• Write, edit, and distribute content, including publications, press releases, website content, annual reports, speeches and other marketing material that communicates the
  organization’s activities, products, and/or services ;
• Respond to media inquiries, arrange interviews, and act as a spokesperson for the organization;
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists, and maintain a media database;
• Seek opportunities to enhance the brand’s reputation and coordinate publicity events as required;
• Maintain records of media coverage and collate analytics and metrics;
• Plan, manage and evaluate communications campaigns that favourably impact the views of the public, opinion leaders and donors in order to raise GHSS’ profile;
• Track and analyze traditional and online media, to identify trends and/or issues, and propose solutions and ideas to improve the effectiveness of communication strategy and activities;
• Gather relevant communications material (stories, photos, video etc.) of GHSS project activities and produce content.

Education & Experience

Academic requirements and relevant experience

• Bachelor’s degree in mass communication, journalism, public relations, or other relevant field;
• At least 3 years communication or journalism experience
• Experience working with NGOs, Government agencies, or international organizations will be considered as an asset
• Knowledge and experience of communication systems and tools.

Must Have

Required skills

• Proven proficiency in the use of social media;
• Mastery of audio and video filming and editing tools;
• Mastery of broadcast tools, streaming platforms and digital asset management
• Editorial management and coordination skills;
• Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• Proficiency in design and publishing software;
• Great sense of editorial initiative.

Languages

• Proficiency in written and spoken English and French.

Remuneration

• The salary for this position is very competitive, attractive and negotiable.
• This is a full time position for a eight (8) month contract with the possibility to renew
